when 절 + 현재 / will / would 그리고 'would'

Part 1.  when  절 + 현재 / will / would

 

 

 

1. when 절,  +  현재형  (100% -> (p->q) 확신 or 사실)

 

 


ex) He always curses when he is drunk [always]
ex) Some people lose their appetites when they are sad.
ex) She is impossible to talk to when she's angry.
ex) He swears when he is angry.
ex) Work will be easier when you attain proficiency


ex) Anything can happen when one is dreaming.
ex) When he goes out, someone must help him.

 

ex) It can be more than 3m when it is fully grown.
ex) It seems like you are always busy when I’m free [always]
ex) When old, we are apt to think fondly of bygone days.

 

ex) Stand bolt upright when you talk to me.
ex) Let me know when you are available
ex) Be careful when you use the scissors

 

ex) When water freezes, it congeals into ice.
 

 

 


2. when 절 , + will 형 (100% -> 예상하기 쉬운 결과)

 


ex) You will be considered when there is a vacancy
ex) And when he asks me a question, I’ll answer it
ex) When he is older he will have more strength
ex) He will steady down when he gets old
ex) He will blow a fuse when he hears about this.
ex) He will let the side down when he changes the team
ex) He will be difficult to replace when he leaves.
ex) When the baby grows up I'm sure he will hate that part.
ex) When push comes to shove, he will tell us the truth.
ex) When you get a chance, he will go there with his friends
ex) When he dies, the crown will pass (down) to his son.
ex) When he dies he will go to hell
 

 

 

 

3. when 절, + would 형 (100% -> 정중, 설의)


 

 

  * when 절, + would 형 : 1. 부탁, 권유

 


ex) When this show finishes, would you like to host a talk show?
ex) When he comes back, would you ask him to call me, please?
ex) When Steve comes in, would you have him give me a ring?
ex) when you go out, would you mind picking up some?
ex) Would you please call me when it's ready?
ex) Would you tell me when we get to 67th Street?
ex) Would you let me know when the deliveries come in?
ex) Would you please call me when you see her? 
ex) When she leaves the company, would you do the job in her train?
ex) Would you please let me know when they come in?
ex) Would you please mail these letters for me when you go to lunch?

 

 

 

 

 * when 절, + would 형  반대 사실 강조 (설의법)

 


ex) How would I ever be able to face my dead parents when I die?
= I thnik / I'll never be able to face my dead parents when I die

 

ex) Do you think I would have money for clothes when I don't even have money for food?
=  I think / I'll have no money for clothes when I don't even have money for food

 

 

 


정리하자면

 


1. when 절 + 현재형 : p -> q 인 명제처럼 100% 그러한 사실 또는 그럴 거라 믿어지는 사실
2. when 절 + will 형 : 100%는 아니지만, 확률 상 그럴 가능성이 높은 일 (대개 그러할 일)
3. when 절 + would : 정중하게 부탁할 때, 듣는 사람이 부담을 덜 가질 수 있음.  그리고 설의법


 

would < will < 현재형 (simple present) [확률 순]

 part 2. would 

 

 


1. 설의법 :  who would = Nobody ...

 

 


ex) Who would have dreamed [imagined? ]
= Nobody has dreamed [imagined]


ex) Who would have guessed that Clark would marry his high school sweetheart?
= Nobody has gussed that Clark would marry his high school sweetheart


ex) Who would commit a crime in the eye of day?
= Nobody commits a crime in the eye of day


ex) Who would have thought this!
= Nobody has though this


ex) Who would dare to beat me?
= Nodbody dares to beat me


ex) Who would want to do something so bothersome?
= Nobody wants to do something so bothersome


ex) Who would read such a stiff piece of writing?
= Nobody reads such a stiff piece of writing


ex) Who would send me all these flowers?
= Nobody sends me all these flowers

 

 

 

 

 

2. S + who + would....... + must :  If S ...... + S must ....

 

 


ex) He who would leap high must take a long run. 
= If He wants to leap high, (then) he must take a long run. 


ex) He who would travel happily must travel light.
= If he wants to travel happily, he must travel light


ex) He who would have the kernel must crack the shell.
= If he wants to have kernel, he must crack the shell


ex) He who would climb the ladder, must begin at the bottom.
= If he wants to climb the ladder, he must begin at the bottom.

 

ex) He who would gather honey must bear the sting of the bees.
= If he wants to gather honey, he must bear the sting of the bees.

 

 

 

 

정리하자면

 

 

1. 설의법은 사실의 반대 즉, 가정법과 일맥상통한다. if 없이 would만으로도 충분하다
2.  S + who + would....... + must 구문에선 if (when) 이 필요없다. 역시 would 만으로 충분하다
